Brand History
Fortaleza Reposado is produced by Destilería La Fortaleza, a family-owned distillery operated by Guillermo Erickson Sauza, representing the fifth generation of the Sauza family's involvement in tequila production. The Sauza family's tequila legacy dates back to Don Cenobio Sauza, who founded the first distillery in 1873 and pioneered innovations such as steam cooking of agave and recognition of blue agave's quality characteristics. Fortaleza was launched in Mexico in 2002, initially as Tequila Los Abuelos, and entered the United States market in 2006 under the Fortaleza name to avoid trademark conflicts. The brand became recognised among bartenders and enthusiasts for its commitment to small-batch production employing century-old techniques.
