Product Story & Guide
History
Beefeater London Dry Gin was founded in 1863 by pharmacist James Burrough, who purchased the Chelsea Distillery in London for £400 and began producing gins, perfecting a bold recipe with nine botanicals by 1876, naming it after the Yeoman Warders (Beefeaters) of the Tower of London. The brand expanded through moves to Lambeth in 1908 and Kennington in 1958, became a U.S. export success by 1963, and was acquired by Pernod Ricard in 2005, maintaining its status as the world's most awarded gin with production still in London under master distiller Desmond Payne.
