Brand History:
Galliano L'Autentico was created in 1896 by Arturo Vaccari, an ambitious distiller from Livorno (Livorno), Tuscany. The liqueur was named to honor Maggiore Giuseppe Galliano, an Italian military hero of the First Italo-Abyssinian War (1895-1896). Galliano was born in 1846 in the Piedmont region and became a legend after heroically defending Fort Enda Jesus near Makallè against overwhelming odds—outnumbered approximately 36 to 1 against 80,000 Abyssinian adversaries for 44 days without food and ammunition. He was subsequently promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and awarded a silver medal by the King of Italy. He later died at the Battle of Adua in 1896, his body never recovered.
