Product Story & Guide
Ultra-premium Japanese craft vodka. Alcohol content is 40% ABV (80 proof). The vodka is produced from 100% Japanese white rice (Hakumai), which is highly polished to remove outer protein and lipid layers leaving pure starch. Fermentation uses kome-koji (white rice koji mold), mimicking traditional sake production methods. Distillation is a three-tier process: first distillation in a traditional pot still at the Osumi Distillery in Kagoshima, followed by second and third distillations at the Suntory Liquor Atelier in Osaka using two separate column still configurations (one for high proof and volume, one for preserving floral and fruity top-notes), which are then blended. After distillation, the spirit is filtered through active bamboo charcoal, a process that absorbs microscopic impurities and harsh volatile compounds while extracting trace natural minerals from the wood to soften texture and enhance roundness. The appearance is completely crystal clear. Packaging is a curved bottle with vertical undulating facets, finished with a Japanese Kanji calligraphy label printed on traditional Washi paper. No specific rice polishing ratio, koji fermentation duration, bamboo charcoal pore size, or column specifications are provided by the producer. The name "Haku" translates to both "white" and "brilliance," referencing the white rice base.
