Description
Yamazaki is Japan’s first commercial malt whisky distillery, founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii near Kyoto, marking the start of the country’s single‑malt tradition.
Early production under Torii and Masataka Taketsuru laid the groundwork for Suntory’s House style, evolving from smoky experiments to a lighter, food‑friendly profile.
The NAS “Single Malt/Distiller’s Reserve” blends malts from multiple cask types—American oak, Spanish sherry casks, wine casks, and Japanese Mizunara—to build layers of red fruit and incense‑like spice.
Mizunara oak is prized for sandalwood and coconut‑like aromatics, contributing a distinct Japanese signature to the whisky’s bouquet.
