Established by George Smith in 1824 after the Excise Act legalized distilling, The Glenlivet helped define the modern Speyside style of elegant, fruit‑forward single malts.
Production moved to the Minmore site in 1859 and has grown into one of the world’s most recognized single‑malt brands under Chivas Brothers. The 15 Year Old undergoes selective maturation in Limousin French oak—wood more commonly used for Cognac—which adds sweet spice and almond notes to the house style.
Glenlivet was among early adopters of French‑oak finishing in Scotch, using a proportion of new Limousin casks to increase intensity while keeping balance.
