Dewar's 8 Year Old Japanese Smooth is a highly innovative award-winning entry in Dewar's acclaimed Smooth Cask Series, bridging the gap between traditional Scottish blending expertise and the distinct artistry of Japanese whisky making. Up to 30 individual single malt and grain Scotch whiskies are aged independently in standard oak barrels for at least 8 years, then blended and returned to oak casks to harmonize, before being transferred to Japanese Mizunara oak casks for a final finishing period of up to 6 months. Mizunara trees take up to 200 years to mature and possess a porous loose-grained wood that is notoriously difficult to coop but imparts an incredibly distinct incense-like complexity.
