Brand History Fortaleza Tequila was launched in 2005 by Guillermo Erickson Sauza, a fifth-generation tequila maker. Guillermo is a descendant of the famous Sauza family, who sold their eponymous brand in the 1970s. Dedicated to reviving the traditional ways of his ancestors, Guillermo restored an old, abandoned distillery on the family estate, "La Fortaleza," located at the base of the Volcán de Tequila. The brand (known as Los Abuelos in Mexico) is celebrated worldwide for its refusal to modernize for speed, sticking instead to labor-intensive, small-batch artisanal methods that honor the legacy of the Sauza family.
