Product Description

Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon is distilled using a traditional mash bill, consisting of 75% corn, 10% rye, and 15% malted barley. It is aged in new charred American oak barrels, which give it a rich, deep flavor. Buffalo Trace is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof), and while it does not carry an official age statement, it is typically aged for 6 to 10 years. The bourbon has become known for its complexity and balance of sweet, spicy, and oaky flavors.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: In my tastings, Buffalo Trace offers a warm, inviting aroma of vanilla, caramel, and sweet oak, with hints of brown sugar, light spice, and a touch of dried fruit. There is also a subtle graininess that adds a comforting, rustic element to the nose.

Palate: On the palate, Buffalo Trace is medium-bodied and smooth. The sweetness of caramel and brown sugar comes forward, balanced by the soft spice from rye. The oak is present but not overpowering, and there is a gentle warmth from the alcohol. Occasionally, there are notes of toffee, vanilla, and light dried fruit, adding depth to the overall flavor.

Finish: The finish is moderate in length, with lingering oak and subtle spice. The sweetness gradually fades, leaving a soft, wood-driven aftertaste with a light peppery bite. The finish is smooth and satisfying, with a slight warmth from the alcohol that doesn’t linger too long.
